Agriturismo, Saturnia, Tuscany
An unusual progect, in that, it involved the transformation of an 'Agriturismo' just a stone's throw away from the most important of all the thermal spas in Tuscany. The recently renovated farmhouse was surrounded by two slopes with a severe incline towards the house and needed sustaining (supporting). It had been the client's idea to support them with wood terraces. I insisted that using wood would provide only a temporary solution as it soon rots when it comes in contact with the soil.
I terraced the slopes and built large sustaining terraces from the large rocks recovered from neighbouring vineyards. These provided a lasting solution and created the perfect habitat for Mediterranean plants. I took the client to the planting stage. I set him off on the planting process and then the client finished the job off in his own time
