renovating climbing plants in italian gardens
Climbers, vines and flowering climbing plants (rampicante) have always featured strongly in the design of Italian gardens. Since the days of early grape cultivation, the italians have been masters in the understanding and cultivation of climbing plants, they have understood the need to prune. The need to constantly care for and (above all) prune climbing plants annually has led to some beautifully stunning creations but also some expensive mistakes regarding the use of climbing plants in Italian gardens.
This series of photographs shows the work involved in the removal of climbing plants such as virginia creeper that get too large but also just how fast they be renovated, if pruned professionally. ecologica spent just one afternoon to remove and renovate this ancient virginia creeper that was becoming invasive.
