Doctor Pisaneschi, Siena (centre), Tuscany
An exciting project to transform a small garden, in the heart of Siena. The small garden had been used as a football pitch and needed some re-designing. The lawn was given a sharper shape, special organic top dressing was added and a gravel area was made. To cover this we removed an old pergola, suspended the wisteria that was growing on the old pergola, built a new, larger pergola and simply lowered the same wisteria back on to the new pergola- without any hitches!
Cypress trees were added to frame the spectacular view of San Provenzano and amazing views of the city in general. The cypress trees also gave some visual structure, which had previously been lacking in the garden. An unsightly new building development was hidden from site by building a large post and wire structure and training large olives (var.'Cipressino) and purple-leaved flowering cherries into a huge 'epalier' shape and planting them alternately for a 'silver/ purple' effect. In a few years this will act as a perfect visual bock at around 3m high and 15 long.
The garden, client and I were very pleased with the results!
